Goosnargh Cakes

Mum’s great grandma on granddad’s side came from Goosnargh this is her recipe.

Serves: 12 biscuits

Time: 30 minutes


  • 300g Plain flour
  • 1 pack of Butter (250g)
  • 50g Castor Sugar (plus a little bit for the tops)
  • 2 teaspoon Caraway seed



  • Place all the ingredients in a bowl and knead with the heel of the hand until a pliable dough is obtained.
  • Roll out fairly thick and cut into rounds (about 6 cm diameter) and place on lightly greased baking sheet.
  • With a teaspoon place a little sugar on the top of each cake.
  • Preheat oven to 150°C and cook for 20 minutes.
  • Cool on wire tray and store in airtight tin.
